Hello & Welcome
Dr. Stella Resnick
Psychologist, Gestalt therapist, sex therapist, author, and speaker.
Specializing in a cognitive-somatic method for personal growth and for relationship and sexual enhancement for couples.
This “full-spectrum” approach is based on understanding the underlying sources of distress and developing greater skill in these areas:
Success at anything—work, love, relationships or sexual intimacy—all depends on how we handle stress, which is largely determined by our early programming. It helps to learn how your past can define your present, how to heal old wounds, and how pleasure can be your most profound teacher.
An intimate, committed love can be a great source of joy and pleasure and an inevitable source of stress. Yet research shows that resolving conflict in a relationship can make a relationship stronger than if there were no conflicts at all. It helps when partners have the tools for dealing with conflict without combat. Enjoying a relaxed yet stimulating and loving relationship has widespread benefits.
Healing our wounds is only half the picture. Learning to give and enjoy a wide spectrum of life's pleasures is vital for a person’s health and well-being. Sexual pleasure also contributes to health and to the bond of intimacy in a couple. Yet the focus on sexual performance can limit sexual experience. Exploring eroticism requires a spirit of play. Cultivating playfulness is highly therapeutic.
To create lasting change in any area of life you need to become more attuned to your body. We do our best, and can be most responsive to a situation, when we can be energized and relaxed at the same time, even during stressful times. Skills involve conscious breath, inner body-mind awareness, and being present and responsive rather than triggered and reactive in a stressful situation.
